My Morning Skincare Regime

Hi Lovlies. Thought I would start my first post off (on our new website?) with my skincare regime. I wanted to do my AM and PM routine in one but it would be way to long of a read.

A few years ago I suffered from horrible hormonal acne, never having had acne before I had to research what ingredients to look for when buying skincare. Now this may not work for you but it did the things for me.

SKIN TYPE

Oily dehydrated: my T-zone is oily but I still have dry flakes caused by dehydration. I also have slight melasma around my mouth and a few pigmentation marks caused by acne

SKIN CONCERNS

Hydration
Anti aging
Pigmentation and even skin tone

CLEANSING

I double cleanse at night, most mornings I just rinse my face with tepid water. If I do feel that my skin needs a cleanser in the morning I’ll use one

HYDRATING TONER

Hada Labo Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist and Benton Aloe Bha Skin: Balances out your skins ph and also prepares your skin, by softening it, for serums and moisturizers.
Nothing beats Korean or Japanese skincare in this regard, jam packed with hyaluronic acid that draws moisture from the air into your skin.
Aloe vera juice and rose water can also be used as hydrating toners.

Tip: Apply toners on damp skin, especially if it contains hyaluronic acid. I used to apply hyaluronic acid on dry skin and it dried my skin out even more but if the skin is damp it draws that water into the skin

SERUMS/ESSENCES

Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence and Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence: Stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Protects skin from free radicals. Helps fade acne scars, dark spots, helps to brighten and clear skin. Contains hyluronic acid as well. Not gona lie this grossed me out the first time i used it especially the Cosrx one, its slimy as hell, the Benton one has a gel serum consistency but i still prefer the Cosrx

The Ordinary Niacinamide: Helps visibly improve the appearance of enlarged pores, congestion, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, dullness, a weakened surface and helps control sebum production

PS: There is no product that can shrink your pores, it can make you pores look smaller by cleaning out the pores but it cannot shrink it….i wish it could! Primers are of no use too, it blurs pores making it less noticeable. Also pores are not muscles it cannot contract to become smaller. What does help is trying to keep it as clean as possible, sebum/blackheads stretch the pore and once its stretched…its stretched.

Morning Skincare regimen - niacinimide serum

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid: This is a Bha, helps clogs pores by dissolving sebum buildup. Great to use when dealing with blackheads and whiteheads. Salicylic acid can directly dissolve the keratin plugs and regulate the skin cells.

MOISTURISER

Benton Snail Bee Steam Cream:  Formulated with snail mucin to deeply hydrate skin. Bee venom also helps promote collagen production. Contains hyluronic acid and niacinamide as well

SPF

Because I use so much acids spf is a must. Physical sunscreen is the best, uva and b rays bounce off from the skin unlike a chemical spf that absorbs and dissipates it. The environ one is good but, ghost face. Regardless we should use SPF EVERYDAY, the sun is the main contributor to pigmentation, aging and acne

Morning skincare regime #1

1. Rinse with water
2. Hydrating toner: hada labo + aloe vera juice
3. Serums: Benton Snail Essence/Cosrx and Niacinamide
4. Moisturizer:Benton snail cream
5. Spf

Morning skincare regime #2

1.Rinse with water
2.Hydrating toner: benton + aloe vera juice
3.Serums: Benton Snail essence and Salicylic Acid
4. Moisturizer: Benton snail cream
5. Spf

Once a week I use a bentonite clay mixed with aloe juice, this sucks all the gunk out of my pores. You have to wait till its completely  dry then rinse it off

Tips
*I do not use cotton rounds to apply toner, just pat on with my hands or mist straight onto my face

*Before applying the next product I wait a few minutes for the previous one to be absorbed.

*Pat on products. Rubbing can drag the skin, stretching it.

*If a product says “for oily skin”, I’m not buying it. These products usually has mattifiying ingredients in it. These ingredients causes your skin to over produce oil because your skin is too dried out, it is actually the cause of what you are trying to avoid. The more hydrated the skin, the less oil it produces.

What to avoid when buying skincare

Fragrance and essential oils: can cause irritation, dryness and aggravate acne. There’s really no benefits to adding fragrance to skincare, besides that it smells nice. Some of the things I use honestly stinks but I’m more concerned with it actually working. After a while I don’t even notice the smell. Some essential oils can cause allergic reactions but there are some that actually help like tea tree oil, NEVER APPLY ESSENTIAL OILS NEAT ON ANY PART OF YOUR BODY

Drying alcohols: not all alcohols are bad for your skin there are some fatty alcohols that helps nourish the skin.
Dyes: same as fragrance unnecessary and its main purpose is aesthetics, nothing else. Don’t get me started on glitter and confetti?

Where to buy

I am aware that almost all of the products in my morning skincare regime is not readily available in SA, however , it’s still more affordable than skincare in SA of the same quality

Korean Skincare (online): Glow Theory and Butterkup Beauty

Japanese Skincare: Butterkup beauty

The Ordinary SA Stockist(online): Muse Beauty and Bay One For Africa.

Cult beauty is where most ladies buy The Ordinary from, with customs its still cheaper than SA stockists’, try to keep your order under R450 and you may not incur customs- this is not guaranteed

We will be having 2 skincare items available in our April #Squadbox, to read more about how to become a subscriber click here

Make up Workshop hosted by Glamore Cosmetics

Make up workshop goody bag
make up workshop with terri tomset

A few weeks ago I attended the Starting Fresh Make-up workshop hosted by Glamore Cosmetics. They host regular Make-up Workshops to help you improve that facebeat if you are still struggling between understanding the differences between baking a cake and baking your face 🙂 . I was the model for the morning session and happily let MUA Terri Tomset(pictured above) have her way with me. The class was very intimate with only 6 attendees(max 10 per session) you can feel free to ask any questions that you may have.

The sessions are 3 hours each giving you ample time to ask all the questions you may have. You can purchase your tickets(R499) for the make up workshop directly from their website

THE MAKE UP WORKSHOP GOODY BAG

On arrival you are served with coffee, tea and scrumptious biscuits . On your desk you will find your goody bag to the value of R1000. I would advise to take your own brushes along with you but if you are not sure or don’t know which brushes to take along, they do have brushes available for you to purchase on the day. The item I loved the most in the goody bags are the lashes. The goody bag is filled with skincare, cosmetics and make up tools and accessories.

As I was the model for my session, I was not physically engaged in the session but was witness to the transformation that each attendee went through in that few hours and.I was amazed. I also got to meet the GlossGuruBlog(Lauren) and I must say wow even more beautiful on person!

These make up workshops are more suited to your beginner/ transitioning to intermediate make up user. In this class you will learn every technique you need to slay that facebeat, from prepping the skin to applying false lashes.

make up workshop attendees

My favourite part of the make up workshop was getting to see how the products work with my skin without having to physically purchase it, my favourite product in their range was definitely the foundation, a full coverage foundation with the ability to still look uber natural.

Although they do touch on contouring in the make up workshop. I would have loved if they could have gone a bit more in detail. They could include how to determine your face shape and how to contour for each shape.

If you want to up your make up game, I will recommend for you to attend one of their sessions. Their next session takes place on the 27.04.2019. If you would like to learn more about the brand or their make-up workshops, you can pull through to our Mini Expo .

They will be exhibiting and having special offers on their newly launched Royal Collection.
