Evening Skincare Routine

Hi Lovlies, following up on my morning routine post, is my evening skincare routine. I use a bit more products in the evenings,  I enjoy my evening routine more, self care is important guys💕

CLEANSER:

I double cleanse every night.

First cleanse is to remove makeup and sunscreen. I apply my first cleanse with clean dry hands on a dry face, massage, add a bit of water massage again and then wipe of the emulsified mess with the makeup eraser cloth, rinse then start my second cleanse.

Second cleanse is to remove any residue left over
*Concentrate on the perimeters of the face, I find that I miss this part the most with my first cleanse.
**You don’t need to have two different cleansers, you can use the same cleanser twice. But using a gentler cleanser first prevents stripping the skin
***Micellar water is great as a first cleanse followed by a more traditional cleanser. I wouldn’t double cleanse with just micellar water, I dont think its very effective in this regard and even though most say not to rinse off, micellar water has sufactants in it that can dry out the skin if not rinsed off.

TONERS:

As mentioned in my AM routine, I use hydrating toners to soften, balance and prep my skin for the steps that follow.

Serums and Treatments – my different evening skincare routine serums and treatments

This part of my routine is where the products deviate the most.
I have five different evening routines that I rotate.

Tretinoin

Helps with cell turnover, acne, pigmentation, melasma and anti aging. Its the purest form of vitamin A and the only thing that has been proven to help with wrinkles. I’m using it for anti aging, pigmentation and melasma mainly.
Con: prescription in SA, but some of the ladies have mentioned that you can just go to a GP and get a script, no need for a dermatologist.
I started out using The Ordinary Retinol 1%, they have a great range of retinols.
*Retinol is something you have to acclimatise your skin too, do not start with the highest percentage first.

Cosrx AHA/ Clarifying Treatment Toner and Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid
As mentioned in my last blog post BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid),works by clearing out the pores from the inside out. AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) exfoliates the skin. The toner sprays out a fine mist, the consistency is like water, absorbs easily and does not sting eyes, no scent.

The Cosrx Blackhead Power Liquid is a bit more viscous than toner, it still absorbs easily.

The Ordinary Alpha Lipoic Acid 5%
Is a potent antioxidant that improves skin texture and tone. ALA can also help reduce swelling and puffiness and enhances the skin’s exfoliating capacity, so that your skin cells can shed naturally. It’s sensitive to sunlight and should only be used at night, 2 to 3 times a week. This really gives me glowy skin the next morning. It does have a smell of sulphur to me-some people don’t experience any smell at all

Innisfree Green Barley Overnight Peeling Mask
Contains AHA and BHA for skin turnover. The AHA and BHA encourages healthy skin turnover(exfoliates), improve moisture retention, unclog pores, reduce inflammation. Other ingredients such as Glycerin and extracts of Barley seed, Rice, Tangerine peel, Orchid, Green tea, and Prickly pear, helps to keep the skin hydrated, supple

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution
This is an 10 minute rinse off exfoliating masque. AHA exfoliates the skin’s topmost surface for a brighter and more even appearance. BHA also exfoliates the skin and helps clear pore congestion. These two ingredients combined helps blemishes and improves skin radiance. This peel is AMAZING my skin feels softer and glows, pores are cleared out and smooth. Highly recommend this one
